Dans le cadre de la 50e saison, une exposition anniversaire intitulée « 50 ans de création de souvenirs » est proposée au Centre d’accueil de Kings Landing. L’exposition raconte l’histoire de Kings Landing en détaillant le développement du village recréé et en soulignant l’ingéniosité des personnes impliquées au cours des cinq dernières décennies.
Au cours de la phase de développement, des maisons et des bâtiments datant d’aussi loin que 1795 ont été déplacés et restaurés pour recréer le village du XIXe siècle, que les gens connaissent aujourd’hui. Les bâtiments ont été déplacés par camion, par barge et par pont de glace. Une équipe de chercheurs, d’historiens, de conservateurs,
de jardiniers et bien d’autres ont collaboré pour déterminer la disposition du village, quels objets se trouveraient dans les maisons et de quelle façon les gens de l’époque seraient représentés.
Depuis son ouverture officielle le 20 juillet 1974, Kings Landing n’a cessé de se développer. Des millions de visiteurs ont fait un retour dans le temps pour découvrir les histoires et l’hospitalité du village recréé du XIXe siècle.
Les visiteurs peuvent voir cette exposition au Centre d’accueil de Kings Landing, tous les jours, de 10 h à 17 h. L’entrée est gratuite pour visiter le Centre d’accueil et voir l’exposition anniversaire, qui sera en montre pendant deux ans.
Kings Landing celebrates its 50th season
As part of the 50th season, an anniversary exhibit titled “50 Years of Building Memories” is installed at Kings Landing’s Welcome Centre. The exhibit tells Kings Landing’s own story by detailing the development of the recreated village and highlighting the ingenuity of those involved over the past five decades.
Kings Landing’s story starts with the plans to build the Mactaquac Dam in 1967. The area needed more electrical power, which meant a large section of the river valley would be flooded. A committee formed to protect a selection of historic homes and buildings, and, from 1968-1974, they developed Kings Landing.
During the development stage, homes and buildings dating as far back as 1795 were moved and restored to recreate the 19th century village people know today. The buildings were moved by truck, by barge, and by ice bridge. A team of researchers, historians, curators, gardeners, and more worked to determine the layout of the village, the items that should go into the homes, and the way the people of the time period should be represented.
Since its official opening on July 20, 1974, Kings Landing has continued to develop. Over a million visitors have travelled back in time to experience the stories and hospitality of the recreated 19th century village.
Visitors can see this exhibit in the Welcome Centre at Kings Landing. Admission is not required to visit the Welcome Centre to view this anniversary exhibit, which will
be on display for two years.
